Bringing Camp Home: A Multimedia Project for the 21st Century
Echo Ranch has been around since 1964 and has witnessed to thousands of campers and seen many come to salvation in Jesus Christ. The message of the gospel will never change and Echo Ranch will do it’s very best to present the good news every summer. For some of the campers Echo Ranch is their only exposure to the gospel for the entire year. They just don’t have the support group at home that encourages real spiritual growth.
And now the project…
In the summer of 2007 we were able to create weekly highlight videos for the jr. and sr. high camps. During the last chapel we would watch the weeks events set to music like TobyMac, P.O.D. and others. The one question that came up over and over was, “Can we take a copy home?” The campers think about Echo Ranch all year round and would love to take these memories home with them. Now, highlight videos are nothing new to camping ministry but for Echo Ranch it is something that has never been done before.
As we brainstormed ideas on how to create weekly highlight videos for 2008 a new idea was presented. Why not take it one step further and create a devotional DVD? Follow-up is hard to do with the amount of staff we have and the geographical location of Southeast Alaska. A follow-up DVD would be a great way to help the campers to continue their spiritual growth after the camp season is over. These videos could also be posted online so everyone can have access to them. See the finished product here.
In the summer of 2010 we could use a person with digital editing experience to create the highlight videos.
The equipment we have:
Technology is being used all over the world to share the gospel and create disciples. Echo Ranch would like to use multimedia in its effort to serve the youth of Southeast Alaska in a changing world.
